RFV HYBRID FALLING FILM EVAPORATORS

RFV HYBRID FALLING FILM EVAPORATORS

RFV evaporators are a family of heat exchangers designed in order to provide the best possible performance for water cooling duties for air conditioning and process cooling applications in the industry. Thanks to an advanced and patented refrigerant distribution system, RFV evaporators always ensure the closest thermal approach between the evaporation temperature and the water leaving temperature. Different to dry-expansion evaporators or from fully flooded evaporators, the hybrid falling film technology designed by BITZER not only achieves impressive performance results only at full load, but also at part load, using the minimum possible quantity of refrigerant. Thanks to the internal design and to the use of an internal suction gas heat exchanger, refrigerant is guaranteed to arrive in all working conditions without liquid droplets reaching the compressor.

RFV evaporators are the solution for energy-saving chillers designed to fulfil and overcome the minimum efficiency targets set by the EcoDesign EU directive and its future developments.

CAPACITY AND APPLICATION RANGES
RFV evaporators can operate in a particularly wide range of capacities (from 300 to 2000 kW*), with the possibility to always find a close-to-tailor-made solution thanks to the extremely wide portfolios of available sizes. Playing with the available shell diameters and tube lengths allows the accommodation of the evaporator in locations where space can be an issue.
From evaporation temperatures close to 0°C to data centre cooling conditions, the application range satisfies virtually any air conditioning or process cooling duty.

  • At nominal conditions: water 12/7°C; evaporation temperature 6°C; condensing temperature 36°C; subcooling 3K (refrigerant R1234ze)

A FAMILY OF FLEXIBLE SOLUTIONS

Every chiller has its own design characteristics and installation peculiarities. For this reason, the RFV series of evaporators, beside a number of standard models, can offer a close-to-infinite range of tailor-made solutions thanks to the combination of:

  • 5 different shell diameters
  • 9 different standard lengths
  • 1 or 2 available independent refrigerant circuit configurations
  • 2 or 4 available water pass configurations

Thanks to this design flexibility, almost any requirement in terms of efficiency, pressure drop or overall dimensions can be fulfilled.

THE POWER OF THE HYBRID TECHNOLOGY
Differently from traditional fully flooded evaporators, RFV hybrid falling film evaporators do not need to flood the whole volume of the shell where tubes with refrigerant are present. Thanks to an advanced and patented distribution system, only a small quantity of refrigerant is left dripping on the outer surface of the tubes. This small quantity of refrigerant is enough to facilitate boiling. Thanks to this technology:

  • RFV evaporators are design to operate with an outstanding performance (thermal approach between water leaving temperature and refrigerant evaporation temperature ≤1K)
  • This performance is ensured also at part load as – differently from fully flooded evaporators – the outer surface of all tubes is also fed with refrigerant at these conditions
  • RFV evaporators need much less refrigerant charge than fully flooded evaporators, with a direct environmental and economical impact

SAFE AND RESISTANT

Intensive tests show that the internal design prevents any refrigerant liquid droplets reaching the compressor, even at challenging part load conditions.

  • RFV are designed for safe oil recovery.
  • The water side is fully accessible for inspection and maintenance operations.

BEST EVAPORATION RESULTS
Thermal approach between water leaving temperature and refrigerant evaporation temperature ≤1K.

PART LOAD OPERATION? NO COMPROMISE ON PERFORMANCE
Thanks to the falling film technology, extremely close thermal approaches are also maintained at reduced refrigerant mass flow rates.

GO HYBRID. SAVE REFRIGERANT
Approximately 35% less refrigerant charge is required in comparison with a fully flooded evaporator.

  • Standard or customisable supports
  • Jet pumps for oil recovery
  • Water side connections: flexible joint (Victaulic) or flange (EN 1092-1/01/A PN16)
