Heating with CO₂ instead of coal

Yabuli Ski Resort is the largest ski resort in China, located in the province of Heilongjiang. In preparation for the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2024, the coal-fired boilers used previously for heating were replaced with heat pumps that use R744 (CO₂) cascade systems. This energy-saving retrofit of previous projects covers a total heating area of 400,000 m². One of the main challenges was the low ambient temperature. Furthermore, efficiency and the reduction of CO₂ emissions were key considerations.

Reliable and highly efficient

The CO₂ air source heat pump installation operates with 168 reciprocating compressors of the ECOLINE ME series (6PME) and 56 compact screw compressors of the CS series (CSH95). It is characterised by ultra-low temperature operation, high energy efficiency, rapid defrosting and ultra-high outlet water temperature. The system operated stably throughout the severely cold period of the Winter Games.
