Cold storage with low charge ammonia system

For its new cold storage facilities, Chengdu YinLi Logistics chose R717 (ammonia, NH₃) as its sustainable and highly efficient refrigerant. The project includes two independent cold storage buildings with room temperatures of –18°C, 0 to 4°C and –4 to 0°C. Each encompasses eight floors; the total area is 93,500 m². In total, 15 BITZER open drive screw compressors of the OS.A95 series in five BITZER optimised packages (BOP) offer reliable cooling, using a controlled cycling rate technology with pump liquid supply. Engineering controls and safety protocols ensure safety in the operational environment, which is densely populated. In combination, the two systems achieve a very low refrigerant charge of 1.29 kg/kW and 0.33 kg/kW, respectively.
