Mounting the shaft seal with metal bellows
Preparation
- Keep ready the same tools as for removal.
- Always replace the entire shaft seal: the stationary and rotating unit together.
- Have a new sealing cover ready if the shaft seal without a bellows is being replaced by one with a bellows.
- Have some new refrigeration compressor oil and soft cloths ready.
Mounting the rotating unit
- Lubricate the sliding ring, the new O-rings and the shaft with clean refrigeration compressor oil, but do not lubricate the flat gasket or the flange surface.
- Insert a new O-ring into the rotating unit (10).
NOTICE
Irreversible damage to the shaft is possible.
Irreversible damage to the shaft is possible.
- Loosen the set screws enough so that they cannot touch the shaft.
- Work carefully.
- Do not tilt the rotating unit when sliding it on.
- Slide the rotating unit onto the shaft whilst turning it gently.
- Press the rotating unit as far as it will go against the shoulder on the shaft or the inner ring of the roller bearing.
- For OS.53: A drive pin (14) is pressed into the crankshaft flange. It must engage in the groove of the end piece.
- Take the hexagon socket screw spanner from the replacement shaft seal kit.
- Press the rotating unit against the crankshaft flange to prevent angular misalignment.
- Whilst doing so, tighten the set screws (12) evenly in at least two stages using the hexagon socket screw spanner to achieve the best possible concentricity with the compressor shaft.
OS.53: Mounting the stationary unit
The stationary unit and sealing cover are supplied as a pre-assembled unit.
- Insert the new O-ring into the stationary unit.
- Slide the stationary unit over the shaft, turning it slightly, until it reaches the stop.
- Position the unit precisely so that the locating pin (6) in the oil channel of the sealing cover engages with the oil channel of the housing flange.
- Tighten the sealing cover with M8 screws in a crosswise pattern in several stages.
- Test the compressor for pressure strength.
OS.74: Mounting the stationary unit
The shaft seal is identical in construction to the OS.85 shaft seal. The video instructions listed in the first chapter also apply mutatis mutandis to the OS.74.
- Insert the new O-ring into the stationary unit.
- Position the open areas in the gasket over the grooves in sealing cover according to figure below!
- Slide complete stationary unit onto the shaft with the flat face on top. Take great care not to break the graphite ring. Under no circumstances should it be knocked against the shaft or tilt!
- Tighten the sealing cover with M10 screws in a crosswise pattern in several stages.
- Screw in the oil drain hose (8). Tighten the nipple only slightly.
- Form the hose to a siphon and fix it. Put it through the hole in the housing.
- Test the compressor for pressure strength.
